Women of the Southwest Frontier: From Settlement to Suffrage is the subject of
the 5th Annual Fort Smith History Conference at the University of Arkansas-Fort
Smith. This is an interpretive and scholarly program which will highlight the
significance of women in the region.
Scholars from across the area will present papers and workshops on topics,
including the contribution of women, their life ways, contact and interaction,
the landscape, slavery, war, legislation, funeral customs, dress, suffrage,
employment, childbirth and rearing on the Arkansas frontier or in Indian Territory.
The conference is supported by Historytellers Interpretive Services
and the UAFS History Department and College of the Humanities and
Social Sciences The price of the conference includes lunch, dinner, snacks,
and workshops. $30- adults, $20- Seniors, Students-Free with student ID
